MÓNICA & EDUARDO’S FUERTEVENTURA ENGAGEMENT SHOOT: VOLCANIC LANDSCAPES, ATLANTIC LIGHT & A DESTINATION DREAM
There are shoots that stay with you forever - the kind that remind you exactly why you chose this job. Mónica & Eduardo’s engagement shoot in Fuerteventura was one of those. From the moment they told me they wanted to fly me all the way from Newcastle to the Canary Islands for their engagement shoot - followed just days later by their wedding in Gran Canaria - I knew this was going to be something truly special. My first destination wedding experience, starting with an engagement shoot on one of the most breathtaking islands in Europe. A dream, in every sense of the word.
Fuerteventura is a place shaped by time, wind, and fire. Its history is written into the land itself - ancient volcanoes, vast malpaís landscapes formed by hardened lava, and coastlines where the Atlantic meets the island with a wild, untamed beauty. It’s raw, cinematic, and deeply emotional - the kind of setting that doesn’t just frame a story, but becomes part of it.
Mónica and Eduardo picked me up straight from the airport, and without missing a beat, we headed directly to Playita del Porís. There was something so effortlessly perfect about starting the shoot there - the soft volcanic sand, the beautifully light, crystal-clear water, and that calm, expansive horizon that makes everything feel slower and more intentional. One of my favourite parts of this first location was how much space there was for what mattered most to them: movement, laughter, and their dogs running freely along the shoreline. Those doggo runs weren’t just a detail - they were a reflection of who they are, their joy, and the life they share together. These are the moments I always look for - real, unscripted, full of feeling.
After the beach, we took a short break back at their house - a pause that felt just as meaningful as the shoot itself. Eduardo cooked what I can confidently say were the best pizzas I’ve ever had — the kind of meal that feels like home, even when you’re miles away from your own. It was relaxed, warm, and full of conversation - one of those in-between moments that makes destination shoots so special. You’re not just photographing a couple; you’re stepping into their world.
As the light softened, we headed back out to explore more of the island’s dramatic landscapes. Shooting near a volcano and within the striking terrain of Malpaís de la Arena felt almost otherworldly. The textures, the deep earthy tones, the contrast between sky and lava rock - it was cinematic in the most natural way. These locations carry centuries of history beneath your feet, and photographing Mónica & Eduardo there felt powerful, grounded, and timeless.
We ended the day at a ranch that genuinely felt like something straight out of Yellowstone - a show they absolutely love, and a place that couldn’t have been more perfect to close the story. Surrounded by open land, warm evening light, and that sense of quiet drama, it was the ideal final chapter to their engagement shoot. There’s something so special about ending a session somewhere unexpected - a place that surprises you and adds a completely new layer to the narrative.
This shoot wasn’t just about beautiful locations (although Fuerteventura delivered those endlessly). It was about trust, connection, and the excitement of what was to come - an engagement shoot that flowed seamlessly into their wedding journey in Gran Canaria just days later. Being invited into that experience, flying across countries to document such an important chapter in their lives, is something I’ll always be grateful for.
Mónica & Eduardo’s Fuerteventura engagement shoot was wild, heartfelt, deeply personal, and full of soul - a perfect beginning to my first destination wedding story, and one I’ll never forget.
