Some weddings don’t just mark a milestone - they change something in you. Mónica & Eduardo’s wedding at Hotel Maipez was exactly that for me. My first destination wedding, and one that completely blew my mind. The light, the warmth, the pace, the emotion - it felt like coming home to something I didn’t even realise I’d been waiting for. I was born for this.

Set in the heart of Gran Canaria, Hotel Maipez is a venue full of character, warmth and understated beauty. Surrounded by volcanic landscapes and bathed in golden light, it offered the perfect balance of elegance and soul. Warm weather, incredible energy, breathtaking surroundings - honestly, sign me up every time.

From the very beginning of the day, there was a sense of joy and anticipation in the air. Mónica & Eduardo were fully present, relaxed, and deeply connected - the kind of calm confidence that comes from knowing you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. Their wedding was captured using a mix of digital photography and 35mm film, allowing me to tell their story with both precision and nostalgia. Film added softness, depth and an heirloom quality that suited the emotion of the day beautifully.

One of the most unforgettable moments came as a complete surprise. Mónica’s sisters had secretly organised a live musician, and when the music began, the atmosphere shifted instantly. It was emotional, powerful and completely unexpected - one of those moments that sends goosebumps through a room. These are the moments I live for as a photographer: raw reactions, real emotion, and memories that will never fade.

The celebration that followed was filled with music, movement and warmth - the kind of wedding where people don’t just attend, they feel. The energy was infectious, the dancing effortless, and the connection between everyone undeniable. Destination weddings have a unique magic to them: time slows down, people stay present, and the experience becomes about more than just one day.

Shooting Mónica & Eduardo’s wedding confirmed something deep down for me - destination weddings are exactly where I’m meant to be, and expanding this side of my work is a huge focus as I look ahead. Incredible locations, warm climates, meaningful celebrations and love stories that cross borders - this is only the beginning.
