NATÀLIA & JACK’S EDINBURGH ENGAGEMENT SHOOT: A LOVE STORY AT CALTON HILL BEFORE DUNDAS CASTLE

Engagement shoots always carry a special kind of anticipation - a quiet excitement for everything still to come. Photographing Natàlia & Jack in Edinburgh ahead of their wedding at Dundas Castle felt like stepping into the opening chapter of a story already filled with meaning. Even more special was returning to Calton Hill, the place where Jack proposed, a location forever woven into their love story.

Calton Hill has one of the most cinematic views in Edinburgh. Standing there with the city stretching out below, it’s easy to understand why Jack chose it for such an important moment. There’s a sense of history, drama and romance in the air. Revisiting the place where they got engaged added an emotional layer to the shoot that can’t be staged - every glance and laugh carried the memory of that first “yes.”

From there, we wandered through Edinburgh’s cobbled streets as the evening light softened the city into something almost film-like. Edinburgh has a way of blending grandeur with intimacy: gothic architecture, hidden closes, and warm streetlights that feel lifted straight from a movie scene. Natalia & Jack moved through it all with effortless chemistry, laughing easily and completely at home with one another.

Their shared love of Taylor Swift added a playful thread to the session. Between locations we talked about favourite songs and eras, and that sense of fun translated into the photographs. Engagement shoots are about capturing personality as much as romance, and their energy together felt light, joyful and unmistakably them.

This session was captured using digital photography, blending crisp modern storytelling with the soft, nostalgic feel that film brings. The combination suited Edinburgh perfectly - timeless, atmospheric and full of character.

Engagement sessions like this are a reminder of why I love photographing couples before their wedding day. They create space to slow down, connect and celebrate the chapter they’re in right now. For Natalia & Jack, this Edinburgh shoot wasn’t just about beautiful locations - it was about honouring the place where their next adventure began, and looking ahead to the celebration waiting for them at Dundas Castle.

Their gallery feels cinematic, romantic and deeply personal - a love letter to Edinburgh, to music, and to the story they’re writing together.

After reviewing the photos, Natàlia and Jack shared their thoughts - you can check out their glowing feedback by clicking here.
